Okay, in the interests of keeping things on-topic, I am creating an amalgam, 'get yer skating vids here' thread. So, here goes.
Regarding Soulseek, I will quote Bev:
"wonchins, that sucks that you can't download Rinkside. Your computer is depriving you of something wonderful.
However, there is another downloading service called Soulseek, which I don't use, but which some people do. Download it here: www.slsknet.org and the community is called "iceroom.""
That's pretty much all there is to Soulseek. If you have troubles finding 'iceroom', just select the window with all the rooms (by clicking on a random room) and then press 'i' until it brings you to iceroom (it usually has anywhere between 12-40 people).
However I, as do most people, much prefer the wonder that is Rinkside. Thus, I shall write an impromptu tutorial for you, so as to better confuse...err, guide you
1. Once you have downloaded DC++ from www.rinkside.org, go to your start menu and launch the program.
2. Go to the 'File' menu, and choose 'settings' (with the little clipboard icon). This should launch the General settings menu box.
3. Enter the nickname you want, skip the next two boxes, and choose your connection speed. If you know what it is, pick it, this won't affect your downloads/uploads. If you don't know what your connection speed is, just choose "56Kbps".
4. If you are behind a firewall, or using a router, change the 'Active' setting to 'Passive.' If you're unsure, just leave the setting as 'Active.' Leave the 'IP' and 'Port' boxes blank.
5. Now go to the top of the settings box and click on the 'Downloads' tab. Where it says 'Default download directory' browse until you find the folder where you want your completed downloads to go.
6. If you want your incomplete downloads to go somewhere else, that's what the next box is for. If you want them to go to the same place as the completed downloads, leave the box blank.
7. If you wish to have a maximum number of simultaneous downloads, you can change '0', but there's really no point.
8. Now go back to the top and click on the 'Sharing' tab. Click the 'Add folder' button to add the directory you'd like to share with the other people on Rinkside. You _have_ to add something eventually, or the mods will kick you, but just adding your downloads directory will do.
9. Where it says 'upload slots', choose anything from 1 - 5 (more than 3 will usually end up slowing everything down quite a bit).
10. Under the 'Appearance' tab, you can change the colours and such, but I'll let you fool with that on your own time.
11. Go to the 'Advanced' tab at the top, enter '4096' for Rollback, and '64' for Write buffer size (don't worry, you don't have to know what these mean). If you're clueless, DO NOT TOUCH THE OTHER ADVANCED SETTINGS.
12. Click 'OK' at the bottom, and your settings will be changed.
13. Go to the 'View' menu and click on 'Favorite Hubs' (the little gold star icon).
14. Click on the 'New' button on the bottom left of the window. This should open the 'Favorite Hub Properties' window.
15. Where it says name, type 'Rinkside.' Where it says 'Address', type 'hub.rinkside.org' (NOT 'rinkside.dyndns.org')
16. Click OK to add Rinkside to your Favorite Hubs. In the Favorite Hubs window, check the 'auto connect' box so that it will open Rinkside whenever you open DC++.
17. Now exit DC++ and re-launch it. The Rinkside hub should automatically open. Once you get on there, you can usually find juleswitz (babou_fan), Nikki (babou_yagsdreamteam), Bev (Lefty) or I (lauren_t), and one of us will be able to help you out with actually using Rinkside, I'm sure
If you have questions/issues with anything in the tutorial, IM me on the forum, or find me on AIM (link in my profile).
