Welcome to Brian Appreciators! We are a community dedicated to discussing the French figure skater, Brian Joubert, and the all that he encompasses.
This board was originally founded after the 2004 World Championships by a few teenage friends who wanted a place to openly discuss figure skating, without being limited to restrictions that are present on other sites. We had a lot of inside jokes and implicitly understood that nothing short of adoration was lurking behind the sarcasm in our posts. In a short time, however, our board became considerably more “high profile,” and in an attempt to maintain some credibility and respect in the figure skating community, we have had to shift our policies accordingly.
Please read this section for an updated list of posting guidelines.
Gossip
You are free to post rumors you have heard or read on other sites, but please don’t start any here. For example, you may say, “I heard from a friend in Simsbury that…” but please do not deduce things yourself, as in, “I saw Skater X and Skater Y together at Worlds…oooohh, they must be dating!”
If the rumor is obviously false or was created in an attempt to scar a skater’s reputation, it will be deleted.
Negativity
Although we realize that the majority of “negative” comments about skaters are used in jest, not everyone may take it that way. When speaking negatively about a skater, try to use “constructive criticisms”; i.e., “I didn’t think his footwork matched his music,” instead of blatantly saying, “He’s ugly and sucks.”
This does not mean you cannot post criticisms; we simply wish to maintain a respectful atmosphere. If you are thinking of posting a comment with a negative edge, consider whether or not you would want the skater in question reading your post. If so, post it. If not, rethink it. (A sort of “think before you post” philosophy, you could say.)
Flood-Posting
Don't flood-post (posting multiple times back-to-back in the same thread). If you realize you have more thoughts to add, modify your old post. Modify it as much as you want, we don't really care, but don't just add more sentence-long posts.
If you begin a discussion that turns out to become more of a dialogue between two members, please take it to instant message rather than continue it on the main board. Also, any messages directed specifically towards Administrators/Moderators, should be sent through instant message (this includes requests for help).
Staying on topic
Please try to stay on topic. If a thread goes off on some random tangent completely unrelated to the original post, consider starting a new one about that topic.
Grammar and spelling
Please check your spelling and grammar briefly before posting. Also, avoid from using “cyberspeak” (4 u, sk8, etc.). These three things can make posts very hard to read, and therefore, hard to respond to properly. We realize that many of our posters are not native English speakers, so we certainly will not go around critiquing your vocabulary, but if you’re uncertain about something, please use spellcheck.
Copyrighted information
Please do not post copyrighted information (articles, photographs, interviews, etc.) without crediting the source. In the case of web-based resources, this can be accomplished by providing a link to the site where you found the information.
Thank you for your cooperation, and if you have any questions, feel free to send one (or both) of us an instant message.
